Fit and Measurements

The satin finish shifts between deep wine and near black depending on the light. Black heels, a single gold piece at the neck, dark cherry lip, hair back or relaxed. This is a low-light dress, candlelit dinners, galleries, wine bars, late evenings. This reveals itself in layers. From across the room, deep bordeaux. Up close, guardian lions flanking roses, eight-pointed stars, and the vulva motif drawn from Sumerian cylinder seals where it marked sovereignty over the body. Inanna descended through seven gates and surrendered something at each one; by the seventh she held the most power.

Symbolism and Craft

Inanna governed love, war, and political authority in ancient Sumer, and she did not separate them. The lions that guard her gates represent power, and the roses reference the offerings left at her temples. The eight-pointed stars are her celestial signature, visible as Venus in the sky.
And the vulva that repeats across the background of this print is the symbol found on cylinder seals and temple walls dating back to 3000 BCE, representing Inanna's dominion over desire, fertility, and sovereignty over the body. The poet Enheduanna, the first named author in recorded history, wrote hymns to Inanna that celebrated this.

The satin finish on the cotton catches candlelight and low evening light in a way that makes the fabric shift between deep red and dark depending on where you are standing.

Bordeaux: Deep Red with Warm Undertone

Woman wearing a bordeaux maxi dress with floral patterns on a white background

The color is a saturated deep red without a blue cast. In daylight, it reads closer to a warm cinnabar; under tungsten or warm interior light, it deepens toward bordeaux. The cotton takes the dye evenly and holds its color at the seams and other high-contact areas.

Three-Tiered Skirt, Wide Straps, Side Pockets
The three-tiered skirt falls from the waistband with volume distributed across the tiers rather than concentrated at the hem. The movement is fluid, and the fabric holds its shape without a separate undergarment underneath. The waistband is structured.
The side pockets are functional and sit flush with the skirt, without pulling on the drape at the hip or altering the outer tier.

The Lions: Inanna's Symbol, Translated to Print

Inanna is the Sumerian goddess of love, war, and justice, one of the oldest documented figures in written mythology. Sumerian cylinder seals consistently pair her with lions and rosettes, symbols of authority and femininity held together. The Inanna print translates that pairing into an original design Diva Thea developed in-house for this collection.

When to Wear This Dress

The Inanna collection is built for formal and semi-formal occasions: galas, weddings attended as a guest, milestone events, and cultural gatherings where a garment needs to carry the evening without adjustment. The bordeaux cotton holds its structure and color under varied lighting.
The same dress works earlier in the day, too. Trade the heels for flats and pull back the jewelry, and it carries a daytime ceremony or a dinner that falls short of full formal.
Sizes run from XXS to XL. The bodice fits true to size, and the tiered skirt moves freely without changing the line above the waist.

Frequently asked questions

What fiber is this dress made from?

The textile is cotton. Full textile composition and fabric weight are listed above under Fabric and Construction.

Who is Inanna and what is the cultural basis for this collection?

Inanna is a Sumerian goddess whose lineage is documented in some of the oldest written mythology in human history. She governs love, war, and justice, and Sumerian cylinder seals consistently pair her with lions and rosettes. The Diva Thea print for this collection draws directly from that iconographic tradition and is original to the House.

What does Bordeaux look like in different light?

The Bordeaux reads as a warm, saturated deep red. In natural daylight, it has a cinnabar quality; under warm interior light, it deepens toward a classic bordeaux. The cotton absorbs dye evenly and holds consistent color across the garment.

Does this dress have pockets?

Yes. Side pockets are built into the skirt seam, functional and flush, without affecting the drape of the tiered skirt.

How should I care for this dress?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry low or hang to air dry. The cotton at this weight holds its structure and color through repeated wash cycles. Iron on medium heat if needed.
