Fit and Measurements

The ramie-cotton blend feels cool and smooth against your skin from the first wear, and the fabric gets softer every time you wash it. The V-neckline with the standing collar frames a pendant or a bare neckline equally well, the bishop sleeves give you volume without weight, and the full skirt moves with you in a way that photographs beautifully in natural light. Nude heels, a pearl earring, and nothing else. You wear it to spring weddings, garden lunches, daytime celebrations, and any occasion where a white floral dress needs to feel substantial and look like you have been buying well for years.

Ramie is a noble natural fiber made from nettles. It is significantly more expensive and difficult to produce than cotton. It has a natural silk-like luster, is stronger than linen, and doesn't rot or mildew easily.

Symbolism and Craft

In Hesiod's Theogony, Aphrodite was born from the sea foam and carried to the shore of Cyprus by the winds. The print on this dress places her symbols in that same landscape: roses, which grew wherever she stepped on land; seashells from the waters that formed her; pomegranates, the fruit associated with her temples; birds that accompanied her arrival; and floating pearls scattered across the composition like offerings returned by the tide. The gold accents trace through the vines like late afternoon light on water.

The ramie-cotton blend is the detail that separates this dress from anything else in the collection. Ramie has been cultivated for thousands of years in East Asia and carries a natural luster close to silk with the structural integrity of linen. It breathes in heat, dries fast, resists odor naturally, and holds its shape through a long day. At 80% ramie and 20% cotton, the fabric has the drape and softness that pure ramie sometimes lacks, and it will feel better in a year than it does today because the fiber responds to washing by getting softer rather than breaking down.

Ramie: One of the Oldest Textile Fibers in the World

Ramie is derived from the stalks of a flowering plant in the nettle family. Its documented use in textile production extends back several thousand years, with evidence of cultivation in ancient China, Egypt, and across East and Southeast Asia. It's one of the strongest natural fibers available, stronger than cotton and comparable to silk in tensile strength, without the animal origin.

It resists bacteria and odor naturally, doesn't hold onto moisture, and dries faster than cotton or linen while getting softer with each wash and wear cycle. These are fiber properties, not marketing claims, they're measurable and repeatable.

Cooler Than Linen, Stronger Than Cotton, Naturally Lustrous

Ramie doesn't trap heat the way linen can in high-humidity environments. The natural luster is visible in the fabric surface: it reflects light evenly rather than absorbing it, which under interior light produces a soft glow. In photographs, it reads as a luminous ivory rather than a flat white, an ethereal quality that comes from the fiber. The cotton share moderates the stiffness pure ramie carries, producing a drape that's fluid through the body without the weight of silk.

Construction Details

Long Sleeve, V-Neckline, Ivory Ground

The dress is long-sleeved, with the sleeve sitting at the wrist without requiring adjustment. The V neckline is cut to a formal depth that holds without adhesive; the bodice construction distributes support across the torso, and most regular bra styles work with this cut. The ivory ground reads as warm rather than stark white.

Side Pockets, Concealed Hardware
Side pockets are built into the seam. Any hardware, including the concealed zipper where the construction calls for one, sits inside the garment with no exposed elements at the exterior, the garment's exterior presents clean lines without visible closures.

Occasions and Care

Aphrodite's Shore is built for formal occasion wear. The long sleeve and V-neckline read at gala, wedding guest, and formal dinner formality, and the ramie-cotton blend performs across variable environments because the fiber regulates temperature rather than trapping it. Every Diva Thea piece shares the same construction standard: enclosed seams and a lining chosen to match the shell, not cut as a shortcut. Full textile composition and any non-textile functional components for this piece are listed above under Fabric and Construction.

Dress it down for daytime with sandals and minimal jewelry; the long sleeve and V-neck carry the same polish without the full formal styling.

The ramie and cotton blend softens progressively with each wash. It shouldn't be washed on high heat, gentle cycle, cold water, air dry flat or tumble dry low. The ivory ground responds best to prompt treatment of any contact staining.
Sizes run from XXS to XL. The long sleeve fits true to size through the shoulder and upper arm.

Frequently asked questions

What is ramie and how is it different from linen?

Ramie is a natural bast fiber derived from the stalks of a plant in the nettle family. Like linen, it's plant-derived and breathable. Unlike linen, ramie has a natural luster built into the fiber itself, is stronger per strand, and stays cooler to the touch in humid conditions. The 20% cotton in this blend softens the hand and adds drape, and ramie doesn't carry the same stiffness risk as pure linen when cut on the bias.

What is the botanical print based on?

The print draws on the same Aphrodite iconography as Botticelli's classical work: roses, coral forms, and gold vine details drawn from that visual tradition rather than reproduced from a single painting. The pattern is original, developed in-house by Diva Thea.

Is ramie sustainable?

Ramie is a natural fiber that requires no irrigation beyond rainfall in its native growing regions and no pesticides in standard cultivation, and it produces multiple harvests per year from a single planting. Diva Thea doesn't use sustainability language without factual basis and legal review, what can be stated factually is that ramie is a natural fiber, plant-derived, and doesn't involve synthetic chemistry in its base production. Full textile composition is listed above under Fabric and Construction.

Can this dress be worn to a black-tie event?

The long sleeve, V-neckline, and ramie luster position this dress for formal occasion wear. Whether it meets a specific black-tie dress code depends on the event and how that code is interpreted; the construction standard, fiber quality, and silhouette are consistent with formal wear. The Concierge is available by appointment for specific styling questions.

How do I care for this dress?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Air dry flat or tumble dry low. The ramie and cotton blend softens with each wash without losing structural character. Iron on medium heat on the reverse side while slightly damp if smoothing is needed, and treat any contact staining promptly since the ivory ground won't mask it.
